World Cup update: feeling blue – Germany lose but still go through
So much for the streak: Ecuador 2–1 Germany. Sané scored after just 2 minutes – and then came… Ecuador. Angulo equalised straight away (9'), Plata poked in the 2–1 (78') past an unlucky Neuer. After eleven wins in a row, the first defeat – in the blue away kit of all things. But: as group winners they go through anyway, with the Round of 32 on Monday in Boston.
Meanwhile, Ivory Coast beat Curaçao 2–0 to grab second place. Ecuador still sneak into the knockouts as one of the best third-placed teams – as long as they're somehow grittier than the Germans.
The night kept rolling: Netherlands 3–1 over Tunisia, Japan 1–1 Sweden, Turkey pulled off a wild 3–2 against the USA, and Paraguay – Australia split the goals fairly at 0–0 (so, none).
Tonight (9 pm), the Group I blockbuster: Norway – France. Don't forget your pick!
