World Cup weekend: Heroes, hydration breaks, and a 0-0 with consequences NEW

World Cup weekend: Heroes, hydration breaks, and a 0-0 with consequences

From Saturday to Monday, World Cup 2026 kept handing out tipping points — though sometimes to the wrong people. (Fixed.)

Saturday: Undav does it
Germany were 0-1 down against Ivory Coast. Anyone who had tipped 2-1 looked, in the closing minutes, like someone who'd just won the lottery: Deniz Undav (68', 90+4) turned it all around — and sent the DFB team into the round of 16 early. If you had 1-1 or 0-1: you have our sympathy … not. 🥲

At the same time, the Netherlands celebrated a 5-1 win over Sweden. Brian Brobbey scored twice on his first World Cup start — Ronald Koeman nods approvingly, half of Europe is now tipping "Netherlands world champions". If you had Sweden winning 2-1, you need to focus better.

Sunday: Curaçao — the unexpected group-winner maker
Ecuador vs Curaçao ended 0-0. Eloy Room saved like a man possessed, Curaçao picked up their first World Cup point ever — and Germany became group winners, while Ecuador and Ivory Coast are still fighting for second place. Dick Advocaat: 0 goals, 100% tipping chaos.

Japan beat Tunisia 4-0 — in the 1000th World Cup match in history. Historic, dominant, and for everyone who tipped 1-0: sadly, nothing again.

Spain won 4-0 against Saudi Arabia, but switched tiki-taka to "cruise control" after 30 minutes. Yamal and Oyarzabal delivered the goals; the second half delivered … a coffee break.

Monday: Underdog alert
Uruguay and Cape Verde drew 2-2 — draw tippers rejoice, everyone else shakes their head. Egypt beat New Zealand 3-1. Argentina vs Austria and France vs Iraq are still to come tonight. If you've already tipped France 3-0: respect. 🎲

Tipping takeaway: This World Cup rewards patience, super-subs, and everyone who had "late Germany goal" on their slip. On Thursday the DFB team face Ecuador — nothing at stake in the table, but still submit your tip. That's the law.
